National Grid's Sellindge Substation is the British terminal station of the HVDC Cross-Channel, the name given to the two different High Voltage Direct Current connections that operate under the English Channel between the continental European and British electricity grids.
Following a large fire within the station which caused the maximum throughput of the station to halve, national Grid embarked on a large fire alarm, sprinkler and deluge system upgrade.
MNE were employed by Tyco to undertake the electrical design of all the required power supplies and associated infrastructure across the site. Work included new switch gear, four grading studies back to source and cable calculations.
Associated drawings and schedules were produced to the exacting National Grid standards. Final commissioning due end of 2024.
